Important: before you put the first stake on the grid, you need to do a bit of groundwork. Namely, you need to burn in the cast iron cooking racks and treat the interior surfaces of the grill. This will create a protective layer, reduce the chance of rusting and prevent foreign flavours from spoiling the food.
Spray or wrap with vegetable oil all internal surfaces of the barbecue - cooking racks, fire grate, inner drum surface and smoke chamber.
💡 Tip: use an oil sprayer, but avoid using it directly over hot coals or a flame.
Lao barbecue pyramid of fire on the grate (not on the bottom of the barbecue!) and fire. Wait for the coals to turn grey and evenly glowing.
Spread out the coals, put the grates on and close the lid. Cook at around 120 °C for 2 hours.
Remove the grills (use grill gloves!), let cool, lightly re-oil and put it back. Preheat the grill at about 95 °C for a further 2 hours.
While the barbecue is still warm, wrap the grill well the outer surface gently with vegetable oil. This helps to protect the finish and gives the barbecue a little extra sparkle.
Oil may drip at first - this is normal.
Avoid overheating the grill 200 °C - excessive heat can damage the finish.
The paint layer is not covered by the guarantee. It is the user's responsibility to protect the barbecue from rust.
